One Year of Tru Love !

What a year! Has it been a year already?!
One year ago today we met our Tru. On July 29, 2007 we flew from Beijing to Gansu Province , China . Within 1.5 hours we arrived in Lanzhou , checked into our hotel and there was soon a knock on our door. Special Delivery!

The First Night:

Our pouting, nearly crying, sad little guy was handed to us so that we could begin our lives together as a complete family.

He was so sad that it brings me to tears just thinking about it. He would not even look at us for the first 24 hours.

Lin-Ley wanted to play with Tru and talk to him. He would push her away and turn away from her.













The Next Morning (Our First Full Day Together):

I think this is my absolute favorite photo from our whole trip. Look at Tru's face!









Later that day Tru began looking up and making eye contact.

We were being as silly as possible trying to get Tru to smile.

Yes! There is that contagious smile!

Our Second Day Together:

After the ice was broken there was no turning back.

This is another of my favorite photos. That pink cup was Tru favorite toy for the remainder of the trip.

And that was that. From that point forward he has been the happy, smiley, lively, courageous and inspirational Tru that we all know and love.

So here is a summary of Tru's first year:

* 70+ Doctor’s Visits including: pediatrician, developmental, urology, audiology, genetics, orthopedics, endocrinology, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, cardiology, and prosthetics.

* 6 Emergency Room Visits

* 3 Surgeries

We could not be more fortunate to live in an area with world respected medical care just 20 miles away. The military insurance has been absolutely wonderful and with a little coaxing/insisting/pleading Tru has received all of the medical care he has needed and then some. In addition, other than the cardiologists and one prosthetist, all of Tru’s care providers have been female and all of them have been young. In my book that has also made a huge impact on Tru’s care – or maybe it just made me feel better.

So here are a few photos from tonight:

Tru loves to sit in Airborne's bed in our bedroom. Tonight I turned the t.v. on so he would sit there and I could just watch him for a while.

What a gift!

Even with everything he has been through in the last year he is the happiest little boy I know. Oh so happy! (more tears…)
